Since joining Volvo Truck and Bus in 2011 covering London and Milton Keynes, Mark Gingell has progressed in the business to undertake the role in the UK for Construction and Waste markets.
With a history of working in the construction market, this was a comfortable fit for him and the business to make. Soon into his new career, and working with his manager David Clibborn, they managed to secure a 180 Volvo FM Tridem 8m mixer vehicle order from Hanson UK.
Volvo currently enjoy approximately 25% of the UK 8 x 4 construction vehicle market for tippers and mixers and this result places them in a UK leading position. The mixer volumes rest at 10% market share and leaves them behind DAF and Mercedes Benz, but with the latest Hanson deal, they hope to buck this trend.
Volvo has seen good year on year growth with some levelling in 2012 since Mark arrived, but they remain attentive to the market conditions. Mark spoke about how health and safety is playing a much larger part these days.
“With the influence of FORS and CLOCS today placing a heightened awareness in this area, we all have to remain vigilant in playing our part to comply and exceed where we can”, states Mark. Furthermore, he told of the benefits the near side lower door glazing of the Hanson fleet to provide additional safety to vulnerable road users.
The low entry cab options are proving beneficial to the waste market and now the construction market are running with a number of pilot vehicles to improve the health and safety of all road users.
Taking a look further into the future Mark highlighted the growing initiatives in hybrid development, the phasing in of the Euro 6 Step C engine later this year, a trailer mounted mixer option and the challenge to provide the best tractor options to support that market. Business is brisk, but Volvo are not settling for today as they look very much forward to the developing future.
