Repairer Spotlight: Evans Halshaw Body and Paint Centre

Formerly Chatfields of Leeds based in Pudsey, the Pendragon owned Evans Halshaw group have long been established DAF truck dealers of repute and re-invested in their Body and Paint Centre back in 2015.

Following the dramatic turn of events that lead to the financial crises earlier this century, the paint shop was mothballed by the then management structure. However, 6 years later the site re-opened providing a support service to the sales team at Evans Halshaw.

‘It is our duty to provide a quality support service to our sales teams by offering all elements of customer livery support so that collectively we can offer a rounded package’, states Adrian Sefton, Bodyshop Manager.

Adrian re-joined the business to drive the body and paint shop forward to increase the commercial revenue and not to just rely on dealer work, “To help us promote our capabilities and underpin the quality we produce, it was important for me to gain the FLEETWATCH® accreditation for this site. In my previous roles I had worked under PPG FleetWatch support and found that the industry has high regard for its quality and support, and I wanted this site to reach this criteria and gain the membership” he explained.

Under Adrian’s stewardship, he has 7 productives including 2 apprentices and a 70’ commercial spray booth capable of handling all vehicle types. The work they enjoy outside of his standard dealer work is as diverse from supermarket trailer refurbishment, concrete mixers, tippers and Ministry of Defence vehicles too. They also provide accident repair solutions so that any customer can be catered for from new truck supply, corporate branding, in life refurb and end of life de fleeting.

Moving forward the business is to invest further by the installation of a second commercial vehicle spray booth later this year giving greater capacity. This investment shows that the decision to re-open this site was the correct one as the revenues increase and their reputation gathers pace in what is a competitive market.

Adrian explains, “To remain ahead of the opposition, we work closely with PPG FleetWatch to develop paint and livery specifications for our customers. This proves to them that we care about all aspects of our client’s livery and it also gives them additional peace of mind by offering the PPG FleetWatch warranty for the work we produce”.

In just two and a half years the body and paint shop at Evans Halshaw has had a remarkable rise in productivity and they look forward now to the next stage of expansion and future success.
