In 1959 father and sons combination, Percy, Tucker and Will Stevens began their business as coachbuilders, today the family are still at the helm with Karl Stevens as Managing Director. In the early days P D Stevens built up a reputation, which still stands strong today, as bespoke body builders and they still produce special builds for many blue chip companies such as, E-on, SSE and Western Power. This reputation derives off the history of being the most renowned builder to the Landrover platform for many years, demonstrating their flexibility, engineering ability and their strong customer focus.
Today they still concentrate on bodybuilding, repairs and painting of commercial vehicles and their drive on quality hasn’t changed. Paintshop Manager, Rob Ebrey explains that the business is driven by quality and performance and states, “we have a number of long standing customers who come to us each time they have a need for painting or repair because of the standard of work we produce leaves them with peace of mind”.
For many of their local clients image and quality of finish on their fleets are a priority, for example, JT Blakeman entrust P D Stevens with their tractor unit fleet and their trailers as P D Stevens ensure it is painted in NEXA AUTOCOLOR® Turbo plus. Rob comments, “We have been using Nexa Autocolor Turbo for the 17 years I have been at the business and when providing a quality service, the reflection of the paint work is the client’s final and long lasting image of your capabilities. To that end we use Turbo because we have the confidence in its application, time and again, to perform”.
For over 15 years, P D Stevens has been a member of the FLEETWATCH® network, Rob stated, “FleetWatch gives us the independent classification of quality as member that many fleets see as a marque of high standard”. P D Stevens, as part of the FleetWatch network of paint shops and repairers, are able to offer the FleetWatch warranty on their paintwork.
P D Stevens FleetWatch paint shop provides a varied selection of services including painting new vehicles, often for local dealerships such as Greenhous DAF and West Pennine Truck, de-fleeting at the end of life and accident repair work. In addition, they also manage repairs work for a number of insurers and work providers.
In the future, there is a desire to invest once again in the paint shop facilities with financing a new spray booth on the agenda, which all goes to underpin the desire to build on the solid business that has been thriving for the last 58 years.
